Why I Created This Page to Support Families Affected by Neuroendocrine Cancer
“Only a little bit further” is something my wife, Judi, said to me on my first bike ride, on my first day away from home. It was a tough day and those words kept me moving.
I lost Judi to neuroendocrine cancer, and I am taking on this challenge in her memory and for everyone living with this disease.
Neuroendocrine cancer often goes undetected for many years. Many people live with symptoms for a long time before receiving a diagnosis, and for those living outside major cities, accessing specialist care can mean travelling hours for treatment and time away from family.
I want to do something that helps raise awareness and funds for NETs and support the people facing it.
On 22 August I will begin cycling from Adelaide to Toowoomba, covering close to 3,000 kilometres.
When I arrive in Toowoomba, the challenge will not stop there. From Bunnings Toowoomba I will grab a wheelbarrow and run over 140 kilometres to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
During this run I will also stop at Parliament House to advocate for more resources and specialist care for people living with neuroendocrine cancer in rural Queensland.
I am raising funds for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia, Australia’s only medical charity dedicated solely to supporting people affected by neuroendocrine cancer.
If you are able, please consider making a donation. Every contribution helps support patients, families and the work being done to improve awareness, care and outcomes for people living with neuroendocrine cancer.
And when the kilometres get tough, I will hear her voice reminding me…
“Only a little bit further.”
Thank you for being part of this journey.
