Card Sister's Fundraiser
Hi my name is Suzie and I was diagnosed in October 2017 with a Net of the small bowel. I had surgery to remove the tumour which unfortunately spread to two lymph nodes.
They were removed as well as my gallbladder. I’ve just hit the 5 year mark with no recurrence to date. Whilst I still have lifelong side effects, I consider myself one of the lucky ones. This brings me to my card idea and NECA. The shock of being diagnosed with cancer is one thing, however being diagnosed with a rare cancer that no one has heard of is even harder as my desperate search for answers fell on deaf ears.
Until I found the Unicorn Foundation, now rebranded Neuroendocrine Cancer Australia. Who gave me critical support which I’m extremely grateful.
So I made a decision one day that I needed to raise awareness of this terrible disease, and I started making cards with the NECA logo on the back to start spreading the word and raising money from the sales of the cards. So the card sisters were formed. My sister helps me along with other family and friends. So far we have sold over 1000 cards in the past year.
If one person turns the card over and googles ‘NEUROENDOCRINE CANCER’ and it helps someone or raises awareness then our job here is done.
