Racing for a Cure 2025 - 4th Year!!!
Hi friends,
I’m Rob Hammond, and I’d love for you to join me at the 4th Annual Flinders Island Cup – Racing for a Cure on Friday night, October 24, 2025, at Mowbray Racetrack in Launceston.
This event is incredibly close to my heart. I am currently living with Neuroendocrine Cancer (NETs) caused by a rare genetic condition called MEN1, or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1.My brother Chris is also living with this disease, and heartbreakingly, we have lost two of our siblings to NETs. For our family, this is personal. That’s why I started this event. To raise awareness, to honour those we’ve lost, and to make life a little easier for those continuing to fight neuroendocrine cancer.
Thanks to your generosity, over the past three years we have raised more than $160,000. Last year alone, we raised over $53,000 to support the work of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia. A special thank you to the Flinders Island Business community and greater Flinders Island Community for your on-going sponsorship and support, which makes this fundraiser so successful. After many years Tassie patients like myself are thrilled to have our very own dedicated part-time NET Nurse in Tasmania.
This year, we’re turning our attention to another urgent need.
What We’re Raising Funds for in 2025
This year’s funds will go directly toward updating and creating improved and comprehensive patient resources. NET cancer is complex and frequently misunderstood, and patients can feel overwhelmed by a lack of clear, trustworthy information. These new resources will help people understand their diagnosis, navigate their care, and feel less alone on the journey.
How You Can Help
🔸 Donate Funds
Every donation makes a real impact. Your support will directly help patients
across the country receive the information and resources they need.
🔸 Donate a Prize
The auction on the night is always a highlight. If you can donate a prize,
you’ll be helping to raise vital funds and contribute to a great community
event.
🔸 Spread the Word
Share this event with your friends, family, and networks. Awareness is
powerful. Together, we can make sure more people know about NETs and the
support available.
Why I Keep Going
Living with Neuroendocrine Cancer is not easy, and watching my family go through it has been even harder. But I have seen how much good can come from community action and compassion. Last year’s media panel gave patients and advocates a voice. We shared powerful stories that caught the attention of local media and health leaders.
We are making progress. But we are not done yet as we strive for equitable support for Neuroendocrine Cancer patients.
Join Me in Racing for a Cure
If you can donate, offer a prize, attend the event, or simply help spread the word, I would be truly grateful. Your support helps patients like me, like my brother, and like so many others across the country.
Thank you for helping us take another step forward in the race for better care and better outcomes.
With
appreciation,
Rob Hammond
