I’m marching towards a brighter future for people living with neuroendocrine cancer!

This March I’m walking to raise funds for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA) and all Australians living with neuroendocrine cancer, Australia’s 7th most diagnosed cancer.

NECA is the only Australian not-for-profit medical charity dedicated to neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Their commitment to assisting patients, raising awareness, advocating for new treatments, and supporting Australian research is crucial.

This March I’m joining forces with other Australians to support the 31,000+ people living with NETs in our country.

Together, we can make a real impact on the lives of NET patients and work towards a brighter future.

Support my fundraiser for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia today as I March4NETs!

The dreaded big C

Wednesday 11th Feb
It's a difficult situation to be in - caring for a loved one who has this cancer.  Watching them struggle with extreme weight loss, watching them have less energy than they used to have, watching them eat smaller meals. It's no fun, feeling so  helpless, believe me. However, I will continue to advocate for him for as long as possible.  Even the medical team around him (us) are struggling with what his body is doing to him at the moment.  They are doing their best for him though, and are a wonderful and supportive team.

NeuroEndocrine Cancer is now the 7th most common cancer in Australia. It can be discovered pretty much anywhere in the body. Sadly, most people who have it have years of tests and scans, before it is finally diagnosed, and by the time it is found, they are usually Stage 4. Sometimes it can be removed in surgery but in other cases, it's inoperable, such as in our case. However, it is treatable.  In most cases, it is a slow-growing cancer.

Symptoms vary widely based on tumour location and are often mistaken for other health issues. Common symptoms are: abdominal pain (cramping, bloating, nausea, vomiting,  diarrhoea); facial flushing; wheezing; heart palpitations; unexplained weight loss; fatigue. Its vague symptoms can be misdiagnosed with conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Asthma, or Menopause.

NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia does not receive any government funding, unlike other more prominent cancers like breast, prostate, lung, leukaemia, etc. Therefore any donations made are gratefully received and used by the organisation to help provide patient support services (through NET nurses) to both patients and carers, fund critical research, awareness and education, and advocacy by lobbying state and federal governments to improve access to new treatments and medicines.

If you can donate anything, no matter how big or small, it will all help 🙏
