We are getting ready to celebrate her life
Tuesday 9th Sep
Carolyn helped plan her funeral, in fact, she enjoyed it. So did I. Would you like this casket? How about getting buried here? What songs do you want? And so on.
Much of the process got her AOK and it will be just as she wanted. Except, she didn't want us to be sad. Too bad I say, you can't get everything you want Carolyn!
She was thrilled to be able to have an eco-friendly, natural burial. Complete with pandanus leaf casket, dressed in her natural cotton pj's complete with matching eyemask. The girls chose the plot, we took pictures and showed them to Carolyn. She was delighted that her feet will face the North and happy with the beautiful gum tree she will be buried beside.

Carolyn passed away this morning
Sunday 31st Aug
These past few weeks, I've witnessed amazing times with Carolyn, her 3 daughters, her son in law, her sister and many of her friends.
Family came from interstate to visit her and Jeff's sister flew in from Ireland.
Many people sent her the most beautiful messages of love and care and laughter which she enjoyed reading at first and then later, us reading them out to her.
She did not suffer, she lived a full life surrounded by love.
To see her girls care for their mother so beautifully and lovlingly is inspiring - i am so proud of them and I know she would be too.
Goodbye my dear friend Carolyn, my birthday twin. Say hello to Jeff for me xx Share

Update: 20 August 2025
Wednesday 20th Aug
The support and care she has received from the Doctors, Nurses and her whole care team has been amazing. Some have said she is the most positive patient they've had. Her outlook has been remarkable from the very beginning.
While her cancer was initially diagnosed as NeuroEndocrine, it then morphed into 'a very rare cancer'. Her team threw everything they could at it but sadly, she did not respond to treatment.
Last week, she, with the guidance of her team, decided to cease all treatment and we want everyone to know that she is at peace with her decision and her lovely family have supported her all the way.
While it is a difficult time, it has been such a privilege to witness; to observe the undying love she has for her girls and they her. Her love for her sister is beautiful to see and of course, her love for her whole family. Her care and concern for them all is selfless.
Hold her in your hearts. I know I will Share

Kate, my sympathies for your loss. From the messages on the tribute page, I gather you were Carolyn's best friend. My husband Martin and I loved her, and Jeff, too. Our connection was through the construction industry and Carolyn was my Ripponlea buddy where we would seek each other out and spend the evening, laughing, drinking and talking the leg off a chair. We socialised outside industry events over the years but not nearly as much as we'd have liked. In fact I did not know Carolyn was unwell and saw her last at Jeff's funeral so I understand we were not as close as the warmth, empathy and camaraderie I felt in her company, suggested. They both had that wonderful gift - to make people feel embraced and valued. I sincerely hope you get through this time without too much difficulty and that you take comfort from your shared history. Take care. Sophie. X
